Perfumes

Perfume affects our memory in an extraordinary way, thus arousing a distinctive impression on our minds. Arabic perfume also known as attar or ittar is derived from the Persian word itir, meaning perfume. They are exotic and carry a sense of local Arabic traditions. Arabic perfumes normally use oils and water instead of alcohol as the liquid base for fragrances. These are extracted from natural products such as plants, grass, flowers, wood, roots, leaves, and gums. Musk, Amber, and Rosewater are among the most famous Arabic perfumes. Perfumers can personalize these perfumes by adding these natural products of their choice. The lingering and exotic aroma of these perfumes can be easily recognized in a crowd when someone wearing it passes by.

Arab perfumers still make the finest natural oil perfume. It is said that perfumes made an entry into Europe from Arabia after the crusades.
Abu Yusuf Yaqub bin Ishaaq al Kindi is recognized as the founder of Arabic perfume. Jabir ibn Hayyan later also made a significant contribution by developing new techniques in perfume making that include distillation, filtration, and evaporation.

Arabs are known as traders all over the world. They travel through deserts from one part to another for their trading with different societies. During this traveling, they collect a variety of spices and plants that are then used in the manufacturing of oils used in Arabic perfumes.
